I agree. Al Gore is a courageous, patriotic former Vice President of the United Stares who has been dedicated to mitigating the effects of climate change fwhile we still have time. The re-election of Trump is catastrophic in many ways, including his insistence on the denial of climate change. He was unfairly cheated of victory in the Presidential race of 2000.
In 2014 I was spending time with an old friend who was a former marine. When I realized he and his mother watched only FOX news I confronted him. I said that if Trump actually became president someday, we’d see blood running in the streets. He laughed at me. A few years later when all the truck MAGA’s started attaching flags to their truck beds and driving around like hellions intimidating people and parading in groups letting those flags fray and get filthy, I asked him if he didn’t think that was disrespectful. He admitted it was that and more - despicable and disgraceful. He also warned me not to interact with those people because they were “crazy”. I’ve lost touch with him but I’m pretty sure he is a MAGA himself today. I’ll never understand intelligent, patriotic, people serving in the military supporting this monster and his minions in spite of their rhetoric and behavior. My friend’s father served in the navy during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii where he was assigned the horrific job of picking up body parts for weeks and weeks. He suffered from those memories the rest of his life. So what does my friend and his friends and immediate family NOT get??! Nope, I’ll never understand. I’d love to ask him “so who’s crazy now”???
Some people do see this danger. They don’t believe it will happen to them. Be thoughtful and kind. Protect the vulnerable. Your family and friends, community and consider your capacity to help strangers in need of care.
This is how we keep the country from being taken apart. We do what we've done in times of crisis, we stay grounded, we check on and assist our neighbors...we form a web when we do the humane things. Webs hold up to a lot of strain. One or 2 threads will break, but the web will survive
