Great episode! I used to wonder if the media was so passive about Trump’s cognitive decline because he branded himself as this “in-your-face, I’ll-say-anything” type of personality/politician back in 2015/2016 and people just attribute his actions now to that personality and to his narcissism. They kind of just thrown their hands up and say, “well that’s Trump!” And move on. It’s definitely a double standard, but I think whether it is intentional or not, it’s causing a huge disparity in how people receive information about the candidates. And in the case of the NYT, it’s been feeling much more intentional lately, as you’ve been pointing out.

When The NY Times was doing its takedown, the podcast bros at Pod Save America were doing the same thing and I was so irritated. But, happily, they’ve come around.
