What’s insane is that I helped one person check if his MI vote was counted, this morning after seeing too many comments (many from bots) on TikTok. His vote that he cast in person doesn’t show up. It’s Veterans’ Day today so all the hell lines are closed but he’s left messages with Vote.org and sent a compliant to the Michigan Attorney General’s office today. He will call them both again tomorrow. He’s not a bot. He’s a real person I know. There’s more to the details but it’s a shocking coincidence.

The difference between this and MAGA election deniers is that they didn’t see evidence of their votes not being counted. Those things *were* investigated and almost every complaint was proven false.

I’m comfortable owning it. It’s not a “conspiracy theory” to ask that the swing states perform an audit. They did that and it turned up almost nothing. Nothing that would have swung the outcome. I am openly asking my representatives to look into this with a clear mind.

I think those people who are like, “DON’T start with the conspiracy theories,” are justifiably traumatized from last week. It’s fine. I understand that feeling too.

I made a tinfoil hat for a meeting today with a colleague who was texting me to “get off TikTok” (she was worried about me, very sweet). I am the daughter of a father who is known for his interest in conspiracy theories. This is just looking at the funny distribution of the numbers and trying to chalk up the long lines we say for over a week in swing states with our own eyes. I need an audit done to feel like the millions of uncast D votes make sense. 🤷‍♀️

It is part of the democratic process to be able to ask for a recount, and it’s common in elections from state to state.

I believe the challenger is required to provide the funds for the recount—which is how Jill Stein effectively raised and stole a lot of money from her supporters—and Harris raised a fortune, so she should be able to do that.

I hope I made my point in this discussion that I don’t believe it’s buying into conspiracy theory to ask questions and to ask for a recount; however, I do think the Democratic party plus the chorus of news media who joined in painted Democrats into a corner by attacking election deniers after the 2020 election and telling them that they must accept the election results and not ask questions or else they are betraying the Democratic process.

Of course, that is complicated tremendously by the reality that some election deniers committed felony violence and vandalism at the U.S. Capitol and made many death threats. That raises their cries of a rigged or questionable election to domestic terrorism.

Still, there were probably millions of other people who never came to Washington and never did anything violent after the election but still thought the results were questionable, and the Democratic party absolutely shamed them for suggesting it…which makes it really hard for Democrats to do the same without being perceived as hypocritical, even as they argue that the circumstances are different in this case.

That said, in 2020, recounts were held in states across the country and they determined that the results were valid and the election was not rigged. So we should do the same now, but if that does happen, Democrats are obligated to accept that the popular will of the people, indeed, is to go in the direction of 1930s Germany. Which is the real horror of this election.

You made the point well. I comfort-listened to the whole piece. Thank you for making these long form posts. I had to delete TikTok and IG from my phone for a few days because the doomscrolling (and just general doom) were too much.
